Heat Pump Eligibility Criteria in BC

Home Requirements

You must have been a primary resident in British Columbia for at least one year, and the eligible properties include single-family homes, secondary suites in single-family homes with separate metres, mobile homes on a foundation, and multi-unit homes like duplexes and townhomes with individual utility metres.

Utility Requirements

You must have a residential utility account in your name with BC Hydro, FortisBC, or a municipal utility provider.

Installation Requirements

Purchase your heat pump from an authorised dealer such as Airlux, which specialises in ductless mini-split and multi-split systems. Installation must be performed by a certified professional from the Home Performance Contractor Network, mandatory for installations post-July 1, 2022.

Rebate Application​

Steps on How To Apply For a Heat Pumps Rebate

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Ensure that both your chosen heat pump model and installation meet the specific criteria set out by the CleanBC program.

Step 2: Purchase and Install

Purchase your heat pump from an authorised dealer such as Airlux to be eligible for the rebate. Airlux provides a range of models that comply with the program’s criteria.

Step 3: Installation Requirements

Choose a contractor certified by the HPCN to ensure installation standards are met. As a certified contractor, Airlux meets these standards and is here to assist with your heat pump installation needs.

Step 4: Submit Your Rebate Application

Apply your rebate online within six months of installation, attaching all necessary documents like detailed invoices and, if relevant, proof of old system removal.

CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program:

The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program will replace the Income Qualified Program on June 18, 2024, aiming to make electric heat pumps and efficiency upgrades more affordable for low- and middle-income households. CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate

The CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Programs, administered by BC Hydro, FortisBC, and the Province of BC, provide rebates for improving your home’s energy efficiency through select upgrades.

Type of Rebates Available:

Energy Savings Program

Receive up to $24,000 for heat pump installation costs, including electrical upgrades, based on household income. This program covers central ducted, multi-split, and mini-split heat pumps, ensuring energy efficiency and cost savings for eligible households. CleanBC Heat Pump Rebate
