Driven by positive feedback from a pilot installation, this project highlights strong community initiative and participation, supported by the co-op board’s proactive approach.
Background
The HW Flesher Housing Co-op is a community of 100 townhomes in Vancouver, built in 1984 and initially equipped with inefficient electric baseboard heaters. Motivated by the successful installation of a heat pump in the community hall, the co-op board pursued a co-op-wide upgrade to heat pumps. This project was not only an upgrade to the heating system but an investment in the co-op’s assets and the well-being of its residents, offering both heating and cooling solutions which became essential during the 2021 heat dome.
